Prarthana Jhawar

Associate, State Program, Delhi

Prarthna hails from the vibrant city of Kolkata — a place steeped in art, literature, and revolutionary spirit. Growing up in the cultural heart of West Bengal, surrounded by stories of Rabindranath Tagore, political movements, and adda-filled evenings, she inherited a deep appreciation for dialogue, justice, and the power of ideas.

It was in this environment that her curiosity for the world deepened, and in high school, she found herself drawn to socio-political affairs. This growing interest led her to pursue Political Science — a subject that felt less like a choice and more like a calling. Reading and discussing world affairs brought her a sense of contentment and relief, as that was the only way she could contribute to values and issues she held close to her heart.  As a Political Science enthusiast, she explored various opportunities across Delhi University, to be a part of conversations centered around social justice. As she led the debating society of her college, she got the opportunity to be a part of other conversations which were about the injustices that have long existed in society, and that’s when she realised - she wanted to be more than just a part of dialogue. It was in those moments that she realized she wanted more than just to speak about change—she wanted to be part of it on the ground.

As a Fellow, she dealt with a diverse set of stakeholders and gained an in-depth understanding of the unspoken reality of education on ground. As she designed and implemented multiple projects for the growth of students in different schools of Pune, she discovered her passion for collaborating with large teams and creating meaningful impact.

Alongside working on scale, Prarthna deeply values organisational culture and working towards a vision in ways that are rooted in reality, which is why she chose to start her journey with Simple Education Foundation.

Today, she continues her journey in education equity as a Program Associate, Implementation (Delhi) at Simple Education Foundation, working to strengthen teaching and learning in government schools.

As a child, Prarthna always imagined herself doing a lot of things in life, she enjoyed every bit of theatre, poetry and was also really mesmerized by the study of law.
