Soudipto Bhanja

(He/Him)

Manager, State Program, Uttarakhand

“It’s not who we are, but what we do that defines us”

Soudipto was born and raised in a left-liberal Bengali household of Kolkata. From a very young age he was into both indoor and outdoor sports, and did his schooling in a convent school and college. In Class 10th Soudipto started taking classes for children attending night school, and that's where his interest in education began. The children who attended this night school came from nearby slums, worked in the morning, and studied at night. This experience helped him understand that education is still not universalized in India.

Soudipto took a short detour in his journey to the development sector. He went on to complete his M.Phil in History with a thesis on Women in Sports in India. Post this, he entered the education sector as a research assistant in Vikramshila Education Resource Society in Tripura. Following this, in 2019, he started working in Teacher Professional Development as part of the Azim Premji Foundation, where he worked in remote blocks of Madhya Pradesh to understand educational challenges and build systematic solutions for the same.

This role made him discover his knack for understanding data and stories, and he wants to continue demystifying the complexity of the educational terrain using this knack.

When not working, Soudipto is playing video games or strumming a guitar. He is a foodie, won't ever pass on a mutton biriyani, and is a self-proclaimed excellent chicken curry chef!

As a child, like now, Soudipto was an introvert and found his escape on cricket grounds or the terrace, flying kites.
